Quinn’s move to Grand Forks was a huge step for us. Being able to have him live right down the road and finally share the same everyday life. The move itself went well overall, but it definitely came with a few memorable moments. While packing up in Thief River Falls, we discovered grain beetles in some of the flour and starches, which turned into a miserable cleanup. We were extra careful loading and unloading, trying not to bring them into the new place, even though a few stragglers still managed to show up and gross us out.
Move-in day had its own challenges. We saved the heaviest items for last and used a dolly, carefully avoiding the sliding glass door because we didn’t want to break the track. Reganne would run through the apartment to open the front door since she didn’t have a key yet, and then come open the main door to bring the stuff in that way. When it came time to move the desk, the heaviest thing in the trailer, she took off toward the patio door and didn’t realize the screen door was closed. She ran straight into it, knocking it off the hinges. She was really upset, so we paused, laughed it off later, and reminded ourselves it wasn’t a big deal. She ended up having a rash on her face from the screen.
We got the desk inside, brought in the last item, and finally finished unloading. As we were standing there afterward, just trying to calm down and relax, the dolly Quinn left standing tipped over and punched two big holes in the wall. At that point, we called it for the night. We unpacked the rest the next day, and despite the chaos, it marked the start of a new chapter, one that brought us closer in every sense.
