Our first time going into the mountains together brought us to Storm Lake, where we arrived to complete quiet and had the place to ourselves with a bald eagle flying over the water. We found a campsite right on the lake at first, but decided to tuck back into the trees to get out of the wind.
The trip started with some hail for about an hour, but once it passed, everything became calm and peaceful. We set up camp, did some fishing, and made dinner over the fire: jalapeño and cheese kielbasa, baked beans, and chips. We finished the night with s’mores, sitting by the fire, listening to music, and talking for a couple hours. It was a night that seemed perfect!
The next morning, we took the kayaks out on the lake, drifting quietly and fishing for a while, catching a few trout along the way. It was simple, peaceful, and unforgettable.
